Moscow has been certified under the ISO 37120-2018 "Sustainable Cities and Communities" international standard, reaffirming its compliance with quality of life and city development standards.
The standard has 68 indicators that correspond to different elements of urban infrastructure, environment, safety, economy, and administration. The assessment is done first by a panel from the World Council on City Data (WCCD) and then by independent experts.
Receiving this status will allow Moscow to apply for further certification: as a Smart City and a Resilient City.
ISO 37120 is an international standard that lists the main indicators for the quality of life and services in cities. As many as 100 cities in 35 countries around the world have either adopted it, or are in the process of adopting it. Metropolises that have already passed ISO 37120 certification include London, Dubai, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Sydney, and Toronto.
