On January 29, a new museum dedicated to the famous collectors Pavel and Sergei Tretyakov, the founders of the Tretyakov Gallery, will open in a historic part of Zamoskvorechye, in the very house where they were born.
The house of the Tretyakov family is a typical Moscow merchant’s estate. It has been restored, and the old interior has been reconstructed, with low doors, narrow staircases, and small rooms on the first floor, as well as some architectural elements: the original brickwork and wooden lath on the walls, as well as a part of the semi-basement space.
The ambience and interiors were recreated using artifacts that were not directly related to the house, but were associated with the life and work of the collectors: archival documents and photographs, paintings, sculptures, books, and furniture.
